Award-Winning Innovation: SpectraTurf Surfacing Shines with APWA San Diego Chapter Honors
The American Public Works Association (APWA) San Diego & Imperial Counties Chapter in San Diego County, Calif., gives its members access to the best education and training programs in public works, as well as networking opportunities with more than 32,000 public works professionals. We are happy to announce that in 2024, three SpectraTurf projects were recognized as award winners!
Tecolote Shores North & South Playground Project
The Tecolote Shores South playground opened to the public in December 2023 and is the first playground of its kind in the San Diego Park System to accommodate people with disabilities.
Marshall Neighborhood Park Project
Due to its frequent use, Marshall Neighborhood Park was renovated in December 2023, and its playground now features SpectraPour Supreme surfacing.
Powerhouse Park Project
Having succumbed to the wear and tear of the elements and the thousands of children who had played on it over the years, the playground was renovated to include an ocean-themed design, brand-new play structures, and SpectraPour pour-in-place rubber playground surfacing.
Polliwog Park Project
Completed in September 2023, the new state-of-the-art 12,500-square-foot play area features modern play equipment and SpectraPour Supreme surfacing.
Avalon Promenade and Gateway Project
In an effort to connect local neighborhoods with the historic waterfront, the LA Waterfront is involved in the development of several community enhancement projects in the San Pedro and Wilmington communities. This includes the Avalon Promenade and Gateway Project, which features SpectraPour Supreme surfacing.
SDSU Mission Valley River Park
San Diego State University (SDSU) Mission Valley is a vibrant, medium-density, mixed-use, transit-oriented development located in Southern Ca. that will transform the University and City of San Diego.
Jesse Owens Park
The park celebrated its grand reopening in late 2022. It is named after Jesse Owens, an American runner who won four gold medals in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. Today, he’s still considered one of the greatest athletes of all time.
Many features in the park pay homage to Mr. Owens and the sport of running. But perhaps the most notable park attribute is the playground surfacing which is designed to look like a running track that encircles the playground equipment.
Lucinda Garcia Park
Lucinda Garcia Park is named after long-time Monrovia resident Lucinda Valentine Garcia who was a community activist dedicated to achieving racial equality. The park is located in Monrovia, California which has a rich Latino heritage. A number of enhancements were made as part of the park’s first renovation in over 40 years, and SpectraTurf was excited to be part of the memorable project.
